Hi everyone! You guys may not have heard of me, since I haven’t appeared Twistys before. But I’ve definitely been in the business for a while. I even have my own site which keeps me really busy. (OK, it’s my obsession!) But, when Twistys offered to bring me aboard AND make me the December Treat of the Month, I couldn’t refuse! Growing up in Los Angeles, California, I learned that it’s important to work hard for the things you want. Like most American women, I’m very independent, but, being a Libra, I can balance my dedication and hard work with my laid-back side – which is why my friends always describe me as dependable yet easy-going. I like men with the same personality traits I have. Physical attraction is important, but apart from that they need to be intelligent, honest (I can’t stand dishonesty in a partner) and they need to make me feel secure. Not just financially but emotionally. I need to know I can depend on them in good times and bad times… that’s what being in a relationship is about. Other than that, I’m a sucker for a sexy smile! When I’m not working, I try to fit some sleep into my schedule along with some golf or skeet or trap shooting. As you can imagine, shooting really helps with stress! But my favorite thing to do has to be traveling. I eventually want to see every country in every corner of the world, but, when it’s time to come home, I love L.A.! It has everything I could want in a place to live: warm weather, beautiful beaches, a busy downtown area and lots of nightlife. It also has some really terrific vegetarian restaurants; I couldn’t live without those! But most of all, L.A. is where I work to give my fans the best I can possibly give them. To all my fans out there, thanks for following me to Twistys and for making my site a success! Let’s face it, there is no where else in the world that has uniforms quite like the Japanese ones. Even the Taiwanese and Korean uniforms are based off them! Most schools in Japan make it mandatory to wear a uniform, whether it be a public or private school. The word for uniform in Japanese is seifuku (制服).
There are two main types of uniforms for boys and girls. The first uniform is the more traditional one. Girls would wear a sailor outfit while boys don a military style. These uniforms are based off the Meiji era formal military dress. It was once fashionable to wear the uniform out of school as well, but that is going out of style and most teenagers prefer dressing in casual wear.
The boys’ uniform is named gakuran (学ラン) or tsume-eri (詰め襟). It is usually black, but some schools also use navy or dark blue. The second button on the top of the uniform is given by the male owner to a female he wishes to express love to. It is said that the placement of the second button is closest to the heart. This practice was made popular by the scene of a book by Daijun Takeda. Sometimes the uniform is worn with a black cap, but this is not so fashionable nowadays.
The girls’ uniform is named sera-fuku (セーラー服). It is modeled after a uniform worn in the British Royal Navy. The uniform is worn with knee high socks of either white or navy color. Common colors are navy blue, white, grey, light green and black.
The second uniform some schools use is a more western-inspired one. These uniforms consist of a white shirt, tie, blazer with school crest, and tailored trousers (often not of the same color as the blazer) for boys and a white blouse, tie, blazer with school crest, and tartan culottes or skirt for girls.
The sailor uniform has evolved to become a very popular fetish item, and the uniform can often be seen in manga or animes (most prominently, Sailor Moon).
Spotted over at Angry Asian Man – a college student seeking tattooed Asian American women for her college thesis:
For her Gender/Feminist Studies Pitzer College senior project, Dor Zhang wants to interview and photograph self-identified tattooed Asian American women. Her goal is to create a tattoo magazine — think Tattoos For Women — with an Asian American focus.
As Dor puts it: “I don’t see a lot of Asian American women being represented in the media, let alone in tattoo magazines and in the tattoo community. In addition, I think it would be so interesting to see how gender and race (amongst other factors) intersect to shape the artistic and expressive choices of Asian American women.”
While I can appreciate Zhang’s idea and her intention to promote more representation of Asian women in the tattooed realm, as a tattooed AsAm woman myself (don’t tell my moms), my first reaction was: Noooo thank you.
Now I don’t want too poo-poo it before it’s even published or make assumptions about Zhang’s intent or execution of her project — but I can already guess who’ll be the primary market and/or consumer of this mag. And I bet you can too. Surprise!: White hipster men (I don’t need to say “Asian fetishist” because it’s implied in White Hipster). So, although it may be reactionary, this raised a red flag as just another avenue to propagate Orientalism and fetishism.
She has dragon tats cuz she's Asian. And they're on her boobs cuz that's essential for admiring their artistic value. Duh.
And personally, I have reservations about my tattoos (and thus my “story”) exhibited to complete strangers trying to figure out my Ancient Chinese Secret…splayed on the page across from Kari Ferrell. But that’s just me. People get tattoos for different reasons, including showing them off.
I’m also fairly confident what kind of tattoo aesthetic would most appeal to readers: “exotic”, cliched ones white people already love to ink themselves with: dragon back pieces, bogus calligraphy, pink lotus tramp stamps, koi sleeves, Sailor Jerry geishas etc. etc. ad naseum. In the ubiqitous style of half-nekkid models and ickyslick production a la Inked or Maxim Magazine.
Besides, with my wildly original tats (see below), I probably wouldn’t even make the cut. But I’m not jealous. NOT JEALOUS.

I’m not advocating that Zhang ditch her magazine because of how readers might interpret or objectify it. I do however, urge that her portraits be done tastefully, and showcase a diversity of tattoos, not just “Asiany” ones. For that, I would give props to Zhang for creating inroads to more fully dimensional AsAm imagery (for all I know, she could already be well aware of the race and gender pitfalls to avoid).
Say! You know what I got a hankerin’ to set my peepers on? A book of tatted up Asian menfolk. Zhang, can you help a sista out? I volunteer to be your “model scout” or whatever it’s called. For serious. I’m very professional. And I keep it real – I propose we start with a Warner Bros cartoon-themed centerfold. Let’s DO this!
